We are pleased to announce a joint exhibition by Akiko Hayashi of COKIA and Antiques Haiiro Ookami & Flowers Nishibeppu Shōten, to be held at hitonoto gallery. COKIA will exhibit leather and fabric bags, specially made for this exhibition. As the gallery is in a traditional machiya, she has created a line of bags that mixes Japanese and Western styles. One of the items is a leather bag called ‘azuma-bukuro, which is said to have been made a long time ago by Japanese people who admired and tried to make Western leather bags from furoshiki or tenugui cloth. Antiques Haiiro Ookami & Flowers Nishibeppu Shōten will decorate the machiya interior with antiques, original objects and seasonal plants, including works from the Lantern Series in which small lights are put inside or next to plants and flowers. Tiny secret worlds seem to exist inside these little light installations.
